Porfick Mixing Bowls

So I wanted to talk about these mixing bowls I have. A friend gave them
to me for Christmas. They also came with measuring cups and spoons.
And there are mixing bowls that are 6 different sizes. The mixing bowls
have spouts on them so you can easily pour things out of the bowl. For
instance, if you are making cupcakes and you have to pour the batter into
the cupcake liners, or you are pouring brownie batter into a pan, these
bowls are great for that! You take the bowl by the handle and pour your
batter into your pan making sure it comes out of the spout. They are kind
of like an ovel shape. The handle is on one side and the spout is on the
other side. There are really little bowls, good for serving gravy, or if a
recipe asks you to mix a couple ingredients together to desolve them, you
can do it in the littler bowls and pour the mixture into the rest of your
batter. My mother and I were making chocolate chip cookies today from
scratch, and when you make chocolate chip cookies from scratch, you
need to separate the wet and dry ingredients. You mix together the flour,
salt, and baking soda together in a separate bowl and set aside. Normally,
what we would do was take a regular mixing bowl to do that, and slowly
scoop in the dry mixture with a measuring cup. Today, we combined the
dry mixture into one of these mixing bowls, and we used the spout and we
slowly poured in a little in at a time since you have to gradually mix it in
with the wet stuff. Using a measuring cup to scoop it out also works, but
there might still be some flower lingering at the bottom of the bowl. With
these bowls, you just can pour it in. They also have rubber on the bottom
so they don't move. I am not sure if they are dishwasher safe. They have
rubber on the bottom so I don't know; I just wash them by hand. The
measuring cups and spoons have braille on them. The spoons go from 1/64
of a teaspoon all the way to 2 tablespoons, and 2 tablespoons is the same
as an eighth of a cup by the way. The cups go from an eighth of a cup all
the way to 2 cups. The cups and spoons also have spouts on them. I had
liquid measuring cups with spouts on them and they came with spoons;
they were a set, but I lost them. When I use measuring cups dhat don't
have Braille, I just remember which is which because when they are
stacked from smallest to largest, I just remember what cup comes next to I
just count them. For instance, if I want a third of a cup, I know first is the
eighth, then the quarter, then the third. Now if I just had one measuring
cup, I wouldn't know which one it was; they have to be stacked from
smalles to largest. Same with the spoons. I also have stainless steel
measuring cups with rubber handles. These don't have the eighth since
they are for dry ingredients. That's ok though. I still like them. The
Porfick ones can be used for dry and liquid measuring. Anyway, these
Porfick mixing bowls are great, and there is no spilling when pouring out of
the bowls, cups, and spoons. I would highly recommend these. My friend
got them on amazon. If anyone of you have any other questions, please
ask! :)

I've never seen these bowls. Neat idea.

I've seen similar types. The work good, or should.
I don't use this type, not because they don't work, I like stainless steel products.
It has to do with a crazy notion I have about cleaner and safer food preparing. Also durability.
The type I use, would be more difficult. No spouts and such on the bowls, and they'd slide.

Your spelling is atrocious! The product name is PourFect. (It would be a considerate gesture to get this right, in case someone else wishes to look them up.) Blind Mice Mart sells them.

Personally, I think they're expensive and unnecessary. I have a set of Pyrex bowls with pour spouts, and I'm sure one can find other less costly mainstream mixing equipment with this feature.

That's not to discourage you, or anyone, from making use of this set, of course. I'm happy to see Braille on anything, and if someone needs it, it's good that this item exists. Just commenting that if what you needed from it was the pour spout, you do have other options.

I don't like plastic, so would avoid them on that count, as well.

I have gotten rid of all plastic items as well.
Now all I need is VioletBlue
as my other option.
No more measuring and such things. Smile.

Ugh, ForeReel, how do you stand stainless steel mixing bowls? I cannot bear the sound of metal utensil scraping on stainless steel, it makes my whole body shudder and not in a good way!
Do you use wooden spoons and such?

Post 8 by forereel (Just posting.) on Saturday, 12-Dec-2015 15:50:56

Yes, I have some wooden things. Smile.

Yeah, and these bowls also are narrow near the spout so you don't make a
mess when you're pouring.

Forereel, sir, I'm here. Happy to do the mixing and...ahem...anything else you require. *grin*

You promise? *grin.

I could actually see myself using the Pourfect set.

I think those pourfect bowls can be good for others but not for me. when mixing dough it has been my experience that the ovoid shape makes it more difficult to get a good blending of all the ingredients. somehow part of the corners or whatever gets messed up. I'm with others who don't like cooking with plastic. in my experience it holds smells of other stuff and doesn't get clean enough to my liking. a few years ago, a department store in my area went belly up. when browsing through all the marked down stuff they were trying to get rid of, a set of stainless mixing bowls with silicon over the bottoms fell in to my cart. they are heavy duty but not too much so. when a mixer is being used, they don't dance around the counter. also the hand mixer can be propped in them without tippage. although I do with they had a spout, the other positives make them my favorite go to bowls. hope this helps
